Laws & Policies
The University of Michigan is committed to providing an accessible and inclusive environment for all members of the university community, including students, employees, and visitors. Compliance with Federal and state laws, including the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act, provides the foundation for ensuring that individuals with disabilities have equitable access to all the university’s benefits, its programs, services, and activities.
Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA)
The Americans with Disabilities Act (1990) and the Amendments Act (2008) is a civil rights law that prohibits discrimination against individuals with disabilities in all areas of public life, including employment, education, transportation, and all public and private places open to the general public.
The ADA also requires the university to provide reasonable accommodations to individuals with disabilities who experience physical or digital barriers to its programs or services.
Role of the ADA Coordinator

The ADA Coordinator is the individual identified by the university to oversee compliance with the ADA and other related federal and state disability and accessibility laws, and to oversee and address complaints of disability discrimination, harassment, and retaliation.
Contact the ADA Coordinator at [email protected].
