Advancing Accessibility and Disability Inclusion at the University of Michigan

The Disability Equity Office is the centralized office for advancing accessibility and disability inclusion at the University of Michigan through education, training, outreach, and providing services to individuals with disabilities. The Disability Equity Office also coordinates university compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and other disability-related laws and regulations across Michigan Medicine, Ann Arbor, Dearborn, and Flint.

Our Impact in 2025

Captioning Support

Our office is providing financial support to faculty and staff on a first-come, first-served basis to ensure evergreen video materials, including lectures, symposia, or other educational event recordings, are captioned consistent with digital accessibility standards.

The Disability Equity Office partners with Information & Technology Services to provide tools, training, and guidance to the campus community to promote equitable access to digital information for all.

Work Connections

Work Connections is an integrated disability management program to assist employees and supervisors when an employee experiences an injury or illness that prevents them from working.

Services for Students with Disabilities

Services for Students with Disabilities (SSD) assists students with disabilities and/or temporary injuries. Additional support is provided to faculty and instructional staff who implement accommodations.

The Adaptive Sports & Fitness aims to increase awareness about, knowledge of, access to, and participation in adaptive sports and fitness among people with and without disabilities.
